New regulation changes and smoke alarm safety
From 29 March 2021, new regulations under the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) in Victoria came into operation. Under the new regulations, residential rental properties are required to ensure that any smoke alarm:
Is correctly installed and in working condition;
Is tested according to the manufacturer’s instructions at least once every 12 months; and
The batteries in each smoke alarm are replaced as required.
