Changes to the RTA regulations - now in operation
From 29 March 2021, new regulations under the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) in Victoria came into operation. Under the new regulations, residential rental properties now require regular electrical, gas appliance and smoke alarm safety checks. These inspections were previously optional but from 29 March 2021 became mandatory.
These changes pose significant changes for landlords and will result in considerable administrative challenges for property managers to ensure their landlords remain compliant – and their tenants safe – under the new legislation.
